Oba of Benin endorses Jonathan

The Oba of Benin, Omon’oba Erediauwa, has assured President Goodluck Jonathan of victory in the forthcoming election slated for March 28.
The Oba, represented by his son and a chief in the Benin Kingdom, Ada Erediauwa, made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja.
Premium Times reports that Prince Erediauwa, who led a delegation of princes and chiefs of the Benin Kingdom, met with the Minister of Information and elder statesman, Edwin Clark.
The prince recalled that his father had met with Goodluck Jonathan on three different occasions, explaining that the first meeting was a private affair; second meeting was during an event, when the president went to Edo to commission the refurbished Benin-Lagos expressway.
He revealed that the third meeting that occurred last year September was the most important because the Oba blessed the president by presenting to him one of the highest Benin traditional attire, a “red ododo”.
According to the prince, the ododo attire was worn by the Oba when he had to go to court adding that the Oba deliberately gave the attire out to the president to pass across a message.
He stressed that the gift was very symbolic and till date, the President remains the only political office seeker to have received such a gift from the Oba.
Mr. Erediauwa said, “In Benin Kingdom, the ododo represents success and it is a sign of victory. Whoever wears it to the battle field must return home.”
The prince added that despite statements from opposition, the Oba had made his stand known that he supports no one else, except Jonathan.
It should be noted that the Oba had earlier persuaded the President to run for a second term having reviewed his achievements adding that it was an opportunity for him to continue the good work he had started.
