General Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress won many voters during the recently concluded elections, by stating that he would end insurgency with immediate effect if elected.
Now President-elect, the General has recently peddled low on his stance by saying he is not a miracle worker and needs time to stamp out insurgency.
Buhari made this known in his recent interview with British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, when asked how he will immediately stamp out Boko Haram after swearing in.
The General while speaking said, “If the ruling party which has stayed in power for 16 years could not stamp out Boko Haram, I am not a miracle worker, I will need time and corporation from Nigerians to do so”.
Buhari during his campaign in different parts of the country insisted that he will wipe out Boko Haram immediately he assumed office, accusing Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of doing nothing to stamp out the group.
During the coronation of the Emir of Kano, Buhari in an interview with Cable News Network, CNN, said he would be disappointed if Jonathan and Jega postponed elections due to Boko Haram insurgency.
He added in a flippant manner, that if Afghanistan, Syria, and Pakistan could conduct election during war, “what is Boko Haram.”
The APC, Presidential Campaign Organization, APCPCO, through its Director of Media and Publicity Garba Shehu has debunked the statement that Buhari did not vow to end insurgency in the country within two months.
If Buhari and the soon to be ruling party, the APC, begin to pipe low to their most held statement on insurgency and corruption, it may become apparent that Nigerians were sold half-baked plans during the campaigns.
Buhari during his campaign, scored the outgoing administration of President Jonathan low for not delivering as fast as possible in ridding the North-East of terrorism.
Buhari now closer to his dream than ever, may appreciate the gift of time and patience from Nigerians.
The early change in tone has not gone unnoticed by Nigerians, some of whom are getting skeptical, as the President-elect’s body language of appears to have changed on insurgency and corruption.
