In a recent article written and published by Adewale Maja-Pearce titled ‘The Nigerian Status Quo’ the New York Times calls President Jonathan’s government “…the most corrupt since Independence in 1960.”
This article goes on to spell out the terrorism crisis in North-Eastern Nigeria and the oil crisis in the Niger Delta and in-between President Jonathan’s nonchalant attitude towards all these. Maja-Pearce explains that though the problems in the country should mean the President will be elected out as he goes to the polls next year, it will not likely be due to the ethnic and religious divide in the country.
