Thunderstorm destroys Ogun police command

Heavy rainstorm that hit Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, has wrecked havoc on the major offices of the State Police Command and many of its barracks, destroying documents and property worth millions of naira.

The sections of the command affected included the Department of Operations, some parts of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Pay Office and almost 20 buildings in the Eleweran barracks.

Commissioner of Police in the State, Ikemefuna Okoye, who visited the command headquarters after the incident, described it as unfortunate and painful, particularly the havoc done on the residence of his police personnel in the barracks.

The Commissioner of Police then assured the affected personnel to be calm as all efforts will be made to accord them palliative measures and aides to replace some of the damaged property.

In the same vein, the State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, who was accompanied by Okoye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, ACP Patrick Akinduro (rtd), Special Adviser to the Governor on General Duties, Adeyemi Adebayo, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Haliru Gwandu and his counterpart in Department of Operations, DCP Egberebi Egbuson and some other senior and concerned officers, inspected the extent of damage and promised to send a team of the State Emergency Agency to assess the damage and arrange for aides to the affected offices and personnel.

Adeoluwa, who described the incident as unfortunate, sympathized with the command and affected personnel, while he applauded the command for its good job in Ogun State with more emphasis on drastic reduction in crime rate in the state since Okoye came to the state.

He added that the government will do the needful to support the police command and the affected personnel in all ramifications.

The Commissioner of Police, while reacting to the Governor’s visit and promises, appreciated the state government for its supports to the command always, and promised not to relent on his efforts in combating crimes and social vices in Ogun State.
