Old ideas cannot take Nigeria forward – Akpabio

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stressed that it has no issue with the age of the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Party, APC, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, but rather with the age of his ideas.
The Chairman of the PDP Governors, Godswill Akpabio, made this known at the PDP Governors Forum in Lagos.
Akpabio said “we are aware that some people have complained about the age of Buhari, but we do not see anything wrong as Governors of the PDP with General Buhari’s age.
“If he thinks he can withstand the rigors of the job of the Presidency, there is nothing wrong with his age.
“We are however extremely concerned about the age of his ideas”
“We are concerned about the age of his ideas because 50 years after the first coup, his intervention on corruption; Buhari is still thinking of using his old trick to deceive people of today.
“We dare not allow anybody use a fifty year old trick to deceive anybody.
“Like I said, even the civil society is wiser today like every Nigerian, and the media are wiser today just like other Nigerians.”
The PDP raised concerns over Buhari’s inability to take full charge in his forties because his regime was recognised as the ‘Idiagbon-Buhari era’ as opposed to being named after one man as is often the norm.
The PDP Governors went on to ask if such a man could take charge of affairs at such an old age.
“Can that man take charge now at the age of 73 when his health will require constant monitoring? I leave the answer to you.”
