The Federal Government has restated its determination to bring the menace of insurgency to an end, by putting measures in place to consolidate the current success of the Military in the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in North-East.
Dr Abdu Bulama, Minister of Science and Technology, stated this in Damaturu on Monday during a commemoration sympathy visit to parents of 29 students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, that were killed by Boko Haram insurgents last year.
Bulama assured the community as a whole, that following the coordinated efforts of the Nigerian Military, in collaboration with the Multi National Joint Task Force in retaking and stabilising the territories formerly claimed by the insurgents, the residents of the affected areas are guaranteed a return to normalcy and an assurance by the Federal Government to resolve any grievances that may have arisen.
The Nigerian Military has built up momentum in recent weeks, recording a string of successes, reclaiming towns, seizing weaponry and successively laying waste to the insurgents with the most recently recorded successes being the recapture of Marte and Mafa in Borno State, as well as Buni Yadi and Buni Gari towns in Yobe state between Wednesday and Saturday last week.
Previous victories were also recorded in other towns in Bara, Gulani local government area in Yobe State while in Adamawa State, the insurgents were decimated and expelled from Bara, in Gulani Local Government as well as other towns across the North East.
A Spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Usman on Saturday said the Military remained unrelenting in their efforts to restore the security situation of the country.
“With the capture of Mafa, Marte LGAs, and the Chadian troops holding fort in Dikwa, the international route from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Central African Republic is now fully secured.
“With this positive development, the security of the area has significantly improved.
“It is hoped that international trade and socio-economic activities would be restored along this corridor.” He said.
The Federal Government also recently deployed additional troops to bolster the ongoing operation.
