JAMB holds first full CBT, relative success recorded

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, successfully kicked off its full blown Computer Based Test, CBT, yesterday, March 10 across different examination centres around the world.
‎At one of the accredited CBT centres at Chams City, Garki, Abuja candidates preferred the CBT to the Pencil Paper Test, PPT, which was the old form of administering the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
Upon interviewing a few candidates Post Nigeria discovered there were positive reviews.

Regina, a candidate at the centre, narrated her experience to our correspondent and revealed that her examination
was successful as she finished with time to spare.
She however noted that her examination which should have kicked off by 10am started a few hours later, due to challenges the first batch of candidates experienced.
She added that as at the commencement of her examination they “were no hiccups” at the examination centre.
Responding to the question posed on her preference between the PPT and CBT examinations, seeing that it wasn’t her first time writing a JAMB examination, she responded, “I thought this was actually going to be harder but it is much easier, you don’t even have to write and write.”
Hajiya Mariam Alhassan, a waiting parent, said the examination had been hitch free, but noted that the challenge would be in solving the technical issues that delayed the second batch of candidates from starting their examinations at the designated time.
She said, “This system is definitely better, but the Board would need to handle whatever problems they have to put an end to delays.”
She expressed confidence in the security provided at the centre, adding that every child was properly checked before they were admitted into the centre.
The CBT, introduced in 2012 and test run in 2013, was launched on a full scale around the country after several sensitization workshops and trainings had been conducted with JAMB staff in preparation for the examination.
Prof Dibu Ojerinde, registrar of JAMB at a press briefing a week ago, said that, “JAMB has not promised a problem free examination, we would however, do our best to tackle each problem the best way we can as they arise.”
True to his words, the minor setbacks encountered earlier in the day were resolved before the next batch entered, but all in all the CBT exercise was a success.
On reaching another CBT centre at Digital Bridge Institute, 8, P. O. W Nafemi Crescent, off Solomon Lar Way, Utako, Abuja, Post Nigeria learnt that the examinations had been concluded since 2pm.
The absence of students or parents at the second CBT center indicates that the exams at the center were also successful.
