IGP shuns Reps, meets Sambo

Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo Friday summoned the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba to the Presidential Villa.
The summon, Prompt News gathered was to enable the IGP brief the Vice President on the fracas that occurred at the National Assembly on Thursday, when lawmakers were locked out.
Abba interacted briefly with State House correspondents after the meeting that lasted for about an hour behind closed doors.
The IGP responded this way when asked who ordered the blockade of the National Assembly gate by policemen, “Who did what and who didn’t ‎do what will be disclosed to you later.
“You know we work with investigations, investigations are going on and the press officer will address you.”
Also asked if he was aware of the operation, Abba said, “I still repeat who did what, who didn’t do what you will hear later, is subject to investigations we just don’t talk anyhow.”
Meanwhile, the IGP who was also billed to appear before a House of Representatives Committee did not honour the invitation.
He sent a Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Operations, SL Wakama to represent him.
Abba had been summoned by the House to explain the reason behind the blockade of the National Assembly on Thursday.
The IGP’s letter addressed to the Chairman of the Committee and signed by a Principal Staff Officer, CP Austin Iwar, reads, “I am directed to inform you that due to exigencies of duty, the IGP will not be able to appear before the House.
“Meanwhile, he has directed the DIG Operations to represent him”.
Deliberating on the IGP’s letter, the Committee members resolved that no other person except the IGP himself hold the lawmakers explanation.
