A suspected thief, Ayodele Oniya, is recuperating in the hospital after a failed suicide attempt when the police found some stolen goods on him.
Oniya was said to have stolen a laptop and other valuables from the car of one Fadipe Oludare, a student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, about three weeks ago.
Police sources said Oludare reported the matter to the police who immediately swung into action.
Oniya who is of Ibulesoro, Akure, but resides in Akungba Akoko, was caught while trying to sell the stolen laptop in Akure.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, said the suspect was taken to his house in Akungba for a search and the other items he stole were found there.
“While the other property were being recovered from his house, the suspect suddenly picked a table knife and stabbed himself on the chest in a bid to terminate his life to avoid prosecution, but the policemen with him saved the situation.
“He was immediately rushed to a hospital. He is recuperating. He is going be charged for stealing and attempting to commit suicide,” Ogodo said.
