FORMER MISS AMERICA MARY ANN DIES

Former Miss America-turned-actress Mary Ann Mobley has died aged 75. Mobley passed away on Monday in Beverly Hills following a long battle with breast cancer.
The Mississippi native won the prestigious pageant in 1959, and headed to Hollywood to start an acting career.
After studying with acting icon Lee Strasberg, she landed her big break in 1963 on an episode of Aaron Spelling’s Burke’s Law.
She soon scored roles in numerous films, including two alongside fellow Mississippian Elvis Presley in 1965s Girl Happy, and later in Harum Scarum.
That same year, she was named Most Promising Newcomer at the Golden Globes, and went on to star in such films as Jerry Lewis’ Three on a Couch, The King’s Pirate, The Legend of Custer and For Singles Only.
Mobley also appeared in TV series including Perry Mason, Fantasy Island, Falcon Crest, The Partridge Family, Match Game, and Diff’rent Strokes.
Mobley wed actor Gary Collins in 1967 and they had one daughter together. He passed away in 2012.
