The soldiers refused orders on the grounds that they were not provided with superior weapons to engage the militants, whom they said are highly sophisticated.
A military officer serving in the Mailari barracks confirmed this to SaharaReporters.
According to the officer, who spoke with a reporter until his telephone line went dead, the men complained that they have seen how their colleagues have been ambushed and serially killed, due to lack of superior firepower, and so they cannot take such risk until they are better armed.
As at the time of this report it was unconfirmed if the men reconsidered their refusal action.
