Penultimate Tuesday, Suleiman Abba who was also an Aide-De-Camp, ADC, to the wife of a former military Head of State, Maryam Abacha was booted out of office as the Inspector General of Police by President Goodluck Jonathan following the appointment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase as the Acting Inspector-General of Police.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Rueben Abati in his press statement did not disclose the reasons for the sack.
Noble Information gathered that among the reasons for Abba’s sack, was an alleged ‘’unholy romance’’ with the opposition All progressives Congress, APC, heavyweights and unprofessionalism in the manner with which he discharged his duties.
Until Solomon Arase’s appointment, he was the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
Mixed Feelings Trail Abba’s Sack
According to reports, the Muslim Rights Concern group, MURIC, has urged the Transition Committee of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to declare the sack of former Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, by President Jonathan as having no effect.
MURIC, through a statement signed by its Director, Ishaq Akintola, condemned Mr. Jonathan’s action and said it was imperative for Mr. Buhari’s Transition Committee to “declare clearly, unequivocally and unambiguously that no unnecessary eleventh hour appointment can be made otherwise such will be declared ultra vires and of no effect whatsoever”.
In reaction, front-line lawyer and activist, Femi Falana (SAN) had justified the sudden removal of Suleiman Abba stating that his sack was long overdue.
The lawyer in a letter entitled “Illegal Policing of the Republic”, lambasted the former IGP for involving in partisan politics.
Falana further accused Abba of running the Police Force like his private company.
The Ekiti Democratic Coalition, EDC, also lauded the Tuesday’s booting out of Mr. Suleiman Abba by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The EDC accused the erstwhile Police Chief of collaborating with the All Progressives Congress, APC, to subvert the mandate of Ekiti people that was freely given to Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Reacting to the sack, the EDC, in a statement signed by its Convener, Comrade Boladale Adeniyi, alleged that Mr. Abba and the immediate past Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Taiwo Lakanu, aided the 19 aggrieved APC House of Assembly members in their evil plot to remove Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The group further alleged that the sacked IGP was used by the APC to subvert democracy in Ekiti and some other PDP controlled States.
According to reports, the APC National headquarters are yet to react to the sudden departure of one of their ‘’ loyalist’’ Suleiman Abba.
A source confided in Post Nigeria, saying the chances of the Acting-Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase retaining his position long after the transition to a new government, were very slim as plans are already in place by the incoming administration to see if Suleiman Abba can be constitutionally reinstated as compensation for doing a ‘’yeoman’’ job.
With rifts emanating from the sack of Suleiman Abba and the emergence of Solomon Arase, the APC will not like to work with someone who was ‘’ controversially appointed’’ by the PDP led administration.
‘’The fear is this; Solomon Arase may assume the mole status in the Buhari’s administration.
“Solomom Arase should be ready to collect his sack letter on May 29,’’ the source said.
