APC thugs burn down INEC office in Rivers

Rotimi Amaechi, Governor of Rivers State.
Rivers State All Progressives Congress, APC, in an attempt to discredit the electoral process, and ridicule the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission staged a protest, against INEC in Port-harcourt .
The spill over effect has led to burning down of the INEC’s office in Emohua local government by the political thugs.
According to Vanguard, the building located at Emohua, the Capital of the council which houses the electoral body was Sunday morning engulfed in fire.
The development may not be unconnected with recent remarks by the state Resident Commissioner debunking allegations by the State Governor, where he claimed electoral malpractice.
Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State and the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mrs Dame Gecila Khan, have been trading accusations over events that took place at yesterday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections across the State.
Although, the REC promised that the commission will conduct fresh elections, on Sunday, in Opobo/Nkoro LGA and other units that experienced card reader failures, the Rivers APC in an attempt to disregard the statement and thereby fault the credibility of the commission has staged a protest march against INEC in Port-Harcourt.
The Rivers state REC debunked allegations made yesterday by the Governor of the State when he insisted that the election be shifted to today, because he was allegedly not allowed to see election result sheets and therefore concluded that the result sheets were either fake or absent all around the State.
INEC responded and confirmed that sighting the result sheet is not the criteria for the voting process as such materials are sensitive.
Mrs Khan disclosed that Governor Amaechi is whipping up sentiment, revealing that no report about fake or insufficient result sheets was communicated to her at the time of this report, and therefore, the Governor’s claims are bogus.
On the same development, all the elections in Opobo/Nkoro that were postponed till today are presently ongoing.
