The meeting between the Senate Committee on Defence and Army and Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Kenneth Minimah, almostled to a disagreement when the COAS refused to field questions on security in the presence of the media.
Chairman of the Committee, George Thompson-Sekibo, after his remarks had asked Major-General Minimah to brief the committee on the progress made so far in the fight against insurgency in the North-East but the Army Chief insisted that the press must leave the room before he speaks on operational matters.
All efforts by Senator Sekibo and other lawmakers in his committee yielded no result.
Senator Sekibo in his remark had noted that a brief by the Army Chief would have restored the hopes of Nigerians especially as they are losing fate in government.
Journalists eventually vacated the meeting room after an assurance that they will be briefed on the outcome.
